Testimonials

For several years now, KSI has been our exclusive consultant for structural engineering services. Beginning with the structural design of my own personal residence back in 2004, we have since worked on various award-winning high end custom projects together.  The professional relationship that has developed between KSI and RBD is something that we value tremendously. KSI’s work is exceptionally thorough, meticulously detailed, and extremely accurate, to the point that we have received numerous compliments from building contractors and construction officials.

I am pleased to offer this recommendation as testament to my high level of respect and confidence in KSI Engineers. Our firm has successfully collaborated on numerous projects with KSI and we have always found them to be a valuable member of the project team.
KSI is comprised of experienced principals and staff, capable of understanding the complexities of a project and providing workable solutions. KSI offers a cohesive organization that affords a fully coordinated approach to a project, providing us with the benefit of “one stop shopping” for all of our consulting engineering needs.
Kellenyi Johnson Wagner Architects would welcome the opportunity to have KSI Engineers as a member of the professional design team on any of our projects and can highly recommend their services to others.

We have been using KSI Engineering for nearly a decade. In that time we have experienced nothing but the highest quality of service coupled with creative solutions to our often, complex designs.  There is a spirit of excellence in the work that KSi produces that we have not found working with other engineering firms.  They play an integral role in our architectural firm’s success by delivering consistently high quality work.

We have been working with the professionals at KSI since 2001, and we have found that the experience has been consistently excellent.  Since our projects range from all sizes of residential work to a wide variety of commercial projects, we have engaged in consulting with KSI for nearly every building type that we have encountered.

It is with pleasure that we add KSI to our team in the endeavor of designing new structures with our clients. The staff, no matter who we have dealt with, has been professional in their approach to the design solutions, and yet casual in their attitudes toward the working process.  We will continue our consultations with KSI and, as we had in the past, recommended their services to our clients, other architects, and homeowners seeking structural solutions.

It has been a distinct pleasure to work with the folks at KSI Professional Engineers for the past several years.  For all our projects that we have done with their firm, Kevin, Pat, and the entire staff have provided comprehensive, accurate, and timely service, often working to difficult deadlines.   They consistently approach their structural assignments with care but do not over design, a characteristic we often find with other structural engineers.  When they are confronted with difficult structural requirements, their solutions are creative and sensitive to the other disciplines involved in the project.  The size of their staff allows them to develop designs for projects of various sizes and scopes while continuing to be responsive to the client’s needs.   We look forward to maintaining our successful working relationship.

“I knew Kevin when he first started in a two room office with no employees.  He has earned the excellent reputation that has evolved into KSI”.

Hall Construction Co., Inc. has had to use the services of KSI Engineering in rush situations on more than one occasion and Kevin has always handled each of our situations professionally and in a timely manner which helped to keep the project moving.    KSI always proves to be responsive and cooperative, a big factor in meeting our ambitious schedules.

I have been working with KSI for the last 5 years. I have used them for small structural evaluations on existing buildings, and for the engineering design of a new 6,000 sf home being built on the bay. Dealing with them has always been pleasure and I have always been very happy with not only their response time, but also with their ability to think outside the box when needed. I have recommended them to past employers and clients and will continue to do so in the future.

This past summer I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work as an intern at KSI Professional Engineers in Farmingdale, New Jersey. KSI serves mainly the New Jersey/ New York area but has clients in most of the northeastern states. The firm is headed by Kevin C. Sommons, PE and is comprised of two divisions: Structural engineering and Mechanical/Electrical and Plumbing services. From the months of June through August, I worked in the structural division, working with professional engineers, architects, structural designers, and draftspersons on many different projects and design problems. The summer position was 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday.

The main aspect of my summer position was to create a seminar that was to be presented at meetings of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.) later this fall and into early winter. I prepared the hour long seminar (researc
hed the topic, wrote a report and formulated a PowerPoint presentation) for Mr. Sommons to present at certain A.I.A. meetings. The seminar is about the history of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation; how it formed, how it eventually failed, and what role it played in the construction of many of the world’s most famous buildings and structures. The seminar also explains the modern day steel and iron making process that allowed Bethlehem Steel to become as successful as it was in its heyday.

Another aspect of my summer internship consisted of a scan-to-file project for the structural division of the company. Drawings, calculations, faxes, transmittals and other documents had been stored in the basement of the company’s building and the company wished to have them scanned to their private server to clear space and have a backup in case of an emergency situation. I organized all the drawings and calculations into files on the server pertaining to each specific job number and I managed to scan all of the drawings, files calculations and faxes/transmittals from over 200 different jobs onto the company server.

When I was not working on these two projects, I helped the other professionals in the office with design projects (beam design for homes, office buildings and supermarkets, wind load designs, roof designs for snow loads, and an underground drainage system), AutoCAD drawings in which I updated the company’s AutoCAD standards for all of their structural and architectural drawings and the verification of shop drawings for some of their current (at the time) projects. I also gained experience by going on site visits with different members of the company. I feel this is where I gained the most amount of knowledge during the summer because I was able to perform hands on learning out in the field that couldn’t be done in the classroom or in the office.

In all, I am very fortunate I was given the opportunity to work for KSI Professional Engineers this summer as an intern. I feel that the experience I gained in just 3 months of working there has set me ahead of many of my classmates here at the University of Delaware in some of my engineering classes (especially structural analysis!). I am extremely thankful to those who helped me understand many of the engineering concepts over the summer and I feel that everything I gained in my time at KSI is invaluable. “
