Historic Restoration and Preservation Projects

Hoboken Ferry Terminal – Hoboken, NJHoboken Ferry Terminal – Hoboken, NJ

KSI worked with Hall Construction to provide engineering design and review during many phases of the re-habilitation of the ferry terminal.  KSI evaluated the structural integrity of existing structural members and provided reinforcement details in response to existing structural conditions.  We also provided alternative designs for lateral bracings for the Ferry Terminal so that the bracing would be installed during phases of construction and the building would be installed during phases of construction and the building would remain stable.

Drumthwacket – Princeton, NJDrumthwacket – Princeton, NJ

Built in 1835 in a Greek Revival style, The NJ Governor’s Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 15,000sf mansion is scheduled to undergo an addition along with updating the building into compliance with ADA requirements. KSI explored the structural options for the proposed expansion along with possible modifications of the existing building. The structural aspects of the project included careful investigative demolition to verify the key existing conditions. The investigation yielded critical information which allowed us to accurately design the new structure and MEP systems.

Kennedy Martin- Stelle Farmstead – Basking Ridge, NJKennedy Martin-Stelle Farmstead – Basking Ridge, NJ

The Kennedy Martin-Stelle Farmstead has been lovingly maintained by the Township Committee appointed by Bernards Township since 2002. KSI is proud to be a part of this ongoing project and is working with the architect to restore the houses, barn, cow shed and ice house. The farm settled in the 1800’s, requires our broad depth of historical restoration expertise. Using our experience KSI has quickly identified the key elements necessary for the successful completion of the renovation.

Paterson City Hall – Paterson, NJPaterson City Hall – Paterson, NJ

Review of existing dome at the top of City Hall.  The copper sheathing around the dome was replaced and new armatures were provided.  A report was provided of the existing conditions and necessary general repairs to be made.

The Vermeule-Mundy House – Green Brook, NJThe Vermeule-Mundy House – Green Brook, NJ

Pre-revolutionary Dutch farmhouse built between 1768-1770. Virtually unaltered from its initial construction, the house is a two-story, center-hall colonial with five fireplaces and a full basement.  The Township of Green Brook and Somerset County Board of Freeholders hope to restore the house to its original condition and open it to the public as a house museum. KSI performed an entire site inspection and engineering report in preparation for the restoration.

ALL Saints Church – Atlantic Highlands, NJALL Saints Church – Atlantic Highlands, NJ

This landmark building in the Atlantic Highlands has suffered structural damage over its long history.  The rectory and storage barn and carriage shed buildings were evaluated for structural stability and restorative structural measures were determined.

Woolley House – Ocean Township, NJWoolley House – Ocean Township, NJ

Structural review of historic two story residence and evaluation of the main support members.  The house was scheduled for relocation and the structural evaluation required analysis to move the building.  A new foundation was designed and some investigative demolition was performed.

Marine Science Consortium – Sandy Hook, NJ

Review of existing porch structures and the reconstruction of same. A majority of porch columns and decking were found to be rotted. The columns were duplicated and replaced and the deck restored.  Several wood columns were saved and restored. MEP design for existing building.

Noah Hunt House – Hopewell Township, Lawrence Township, NJ

Developed plans for temporary shoring and bracing of various areas of the structure as selective demolition of rotted and damaged elements were replaced and repaired.

Ocean Grove High School Renovation – Ocean Grove, NJ

Site visit and structural review of the existing campus.  Determined structural stability and re-usability of the structures.

Emmaus House – Ocean Grove, NJ

Restoration of landmark hotel, The Grand Atlantic into a new facility for the local parish.  All wood structure required significant reinforcement to support today’s code load requirements.  We provided a full set of construction drawings for the substantial renovations.
