Fire Suppression Test for Continental Airlines

What happens during the maintenance or repair of jetliners with thousands of gallons of fuel in its tank when one spark could cause a catastrophe? The Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ) requires regular testing of the suppression systems in the airplane hangars at Newark Liberty International Airport for just that reason. Once the system is engaged, the hangar doors automatically close and fire retardant foam is pumped in, filling the hangar with Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF). KSI Consulting Engineers designs fire protection systems and alarms. On this project, KSI Consulting Engineers is the Engineer of Record for the replacement of the three (3) foam pumps that supply the system for this particular hangar.

KSI Consulting Engineers, LLC Find Solutions in Even the Tightest Spots

A new take on, “Fits Like a Glove”…. James Sarno P.E., LEED AP was asked by St Dorothea’s in Eatontown, NJ to replace the 45 year old Heating & Cooling system that serves the Church. The parish had some special requirements - limit the down time, operating systems chosen should be as energy efficient as possible and most importantly, stay on budget and any improvements would not require any structural changes to the building. This meant that the old system had to be removed through the existing 9 foot by 4 foot areaway that leads down to the Mechanical Equipment Room in the Basement. In addition, all of the new components had to fit through the same opening as well. Although there may have been some Holy intervention KSI feels the success of the installation was all attributed to smart engineering, proper coordination with the respective vendors and successful contractor on the project to form a cohesive team that communicates well. Check out the video of the installation of the new HVAC system.
